Self Employed Public Liability Insurance

Self Employed Public Liability InsuranceSelf Employed Public Liability Insurance policies are annual insurance policies designed to cover your legal liability in the event of a claim made against you or your business whilst carrying out your work.

Self employed public liability insurance policies have been brought about by the general 'duty of care' owed to others that exists.

In the UK, many public liability insurance claims are made each year and the trend is growing rapidly as more people become increasingly aware of their right to seek compensation.

Members of the public may suffer injury to themselves or damage to their property whilst you are carrying out your work, and self employed public liability insurance has been designed to provide compensation if you have to pay damages and legal costs for such injuries or for damage to property.

Self Employed Public Liability Insurance Cover

Self Employed Public Liability Insurance Quote FormSelf employed public liability insurance is generally available in 3 standard limits of indemnity - £1,000,000, £2,000,000 and £5,000,000.

With inflation, legislation and increasing awards resulting in higher levels of damages being paid to injured parties, we would always recommend that you choose the highest limit that your business can comfortably afford. We can also provide cover up to £10,000,000 limit of indemnity should this be required.

The limit of indemnity refers to each insured event and there is no limit on the number of insured events during any one period of insurance.

All of our self employed public liability insurance policies include legal defence costs as standard.

Self Employed Public Liability Insurance - Negligence Claims

The majority of compensation claims in self employed public liability insurance are claims for negligence. Negligence concerns the 'duty of care' and a breach of the duty of care that is owed to others is, if it causes a legal injury, it is considered as negligence. Negligence is the doing or omitting to do something that a 'reasonable person' would do or omit to do when there is a legal duty to take care.

The legal remedy for an act of negligence is a payment of damages or compensation.

Employers Liability Insurance

If you have employees or use labour only sub-contractors it is compulsory by law to insure for employers liability insurance. This can be added to your self employed public liability insurance for a standard £10 million limit of indemnity.
